Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a Leader or a Follower?
Traditionally, the male partner leads and the female partner follows, but we break this pattern all the time. Generally, the leader initiates (leads) the moves and creates the energy for them. The follower then takes this energy into the movement suggested, and adds her own flavour to it.

Do I need a partner to sign up for a class?
Both couples and singles are welcome in our classes. Many people register by themselves and historically we have always maintained a good leader:follower ratio. We do rotate partners frequently, ensuring that you meet a lot of great people and learn faster. If you bring a partner and you don't want to rotate, that's fine too.

In what language are the classes given?
Our teachers can comfortably switch back and forth between both French and English. Bilingual classes are taught to ensure that nobody misses a step.

What should I wear?
Wear clothing that is comfortable and lets you move freely, with flat-soled shoes or sneakers. When you are ready to invest in dance wear, we will gladly inform you about our favourite clothing and shoemakers.

I need some extra feedback. Can I take a private lesson?
We are available for individual private lessons and small group (1 or 2 couples). Email us to set up a time, anytime!

Where can try this out or practice outside of class?
West Island: We schedule a regular social dance on the last Saturday of each month.
Downtown: Cat's Corner organizes a weekly social dance every Friday night.

Both these nights are organized by dancers, for dancers! Each starts with a beginner lesson, and offers great music to get your feet moving. Sign up for Lindy Land Letters receive up-to-date information!
